Sherlock Holmes
So today, I took my mum to the matinee showing of Sherlock Holmes. My mum doesn’t go to many movies, but I wanted to treat her to a show that she would appreciate, and as a Brit…Sherlock Holmes would do the trick.
I have read lots of Sherlock Holmes novels and so has my mum. We are both big fans and love the stories. So the idea of going and seeing Sherlock Holmes live…not just in our mind…would be great!
So the movie starts with Sherlock Holmes (played by Robert Downey Jr) and his companion Dr. Watson (played by Jude Law) successful catch the notorious serial killer and occult sorcerer Lord Blackwood right before he murders his 6th victim. However the case is not closed and after Lord Blackwoods is hung for his crimes and pronounced dead by Dr. Watson himself, he rises from the grave thus Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are back on the case.
On a side note: For anyone who has read the stories of Sherlock Holmes, this movie actually starts at the end of Sherlock Holmes & Dr. Watson’s partnership. Dr. Watson is engaged to Mary and Sherlock Holmes is in his opium & drug phase.
Holmes and Dr. Watson take up the hunt to track down Lord Blackwood as he takes both of the sloths on a twisted adventure of murder and black magic. Sherlock Holmes’ lover and master criminal Irene Adler (played by Rachel McAdams) joins in the adventure, but for reasons of her own. She is in fact working for Professor Moriarty.
An additional side note: Professor Moriarty showed up way before Sherlock Holmes drug ridden stage, and has always been Holmes archenemy.
This is one movie that will keep you on the edge of your seats if you are into this type of movie. If you loved Holmes…then you would love this movie.
However, my boyfriend…he may not have found this movie as good as my mother and me. He may have actually fallen asleep.
The movie has slow points, but both Robert Downey Jr & Jude Law do a great job and really draw you in!
The writers set the movie up for a sequel. You do not get to really MEET Professor Moriarty, but you know that the next story will be Sherlock Holmes v/s Professor Moriarty, back to the original!
